Updated: 16-Year-Old Charged With Sexual Assault

Within a few hours of releasing surveillance video of a sexual assault suspect, Sarnia police say they identified the male and took him into custody.

The 16-year-old suspect was arrested around 3;30pm Tuesday and charged with sexual assault.

Police say a 15-year-old girl walking in the Wellington St. and Brock St.  area was  followed for some distance Sunday night and then assaulted from behind by a man, originally described as being in his twenties.

Sarnia police received several tips after a surveillance video was released online. The teen was released on bail.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
