Bitumen Upgrader Pitched To Province

A group of former Chemical Valley executives has pitched a $10-billion bitumen upgrader directly to the Ontario Energy Ministry.

Bowman Centre Associate Walter Petryschuck says Canada is losing $2.5 billion annually by exporting, rather than processing oil sands bitumen at home.

Petryschuck, a former manager of both the Sarnia Suncor refinery and Polysar, says provincial officials "took the request under advisement."

The group hopes to obtain provincial and federal funding to study the feasibility of a heavy oil upgrader.
