St. Clair River Ice Conditions Improving

Canadian and US Coast Guard ice breakers were busy on the Great Lakes again Thursday, freeing ships stuck in the ice.

Canadian Coast Guard Superintendent Andy Maillet says conditions on the St. Clair River are fairly good for marine traffic as significant ice melt continues.

Maillet says the Samuel Risley, which normally operates on the St. Clair River, is heading to the south coast of Lake Erie to escort a tug and barge out of that port.

It was scheduled to pick up another tanker from Nanticoke late Thursday.

The Griffon is in the Detroit area, escorting a tanker toward Sarnia.
