Distracted Driving A Problem In Lambton

Lambton OPP say the results of a recent distracted driving blitz in the county are disturbing.

A pre-publicized campaign over seven days from March 14 to March 20 saw OPP lay 46 charges.

Police say the charges primarily involved hand-held entertainment and communication devices.

The fine is $280 and three demerit points upon conviction under the Highway Traffic Act.

OPP pledge to continue to support distracted driving legislation through enforcement and education.

The provincial force says collision data across Ontario indicates driver inattention was a causal factor in 12 of 51 fatal collisions so far this year.
