Blue Water Bridge Restoration To Start Sunday

The original Blue Water Bridge, built in 1937, is about to undergo a major three month restoration that will see the surface repaved and the structure undercoated.

Starting Sunday all traffic in both directions will have to use the newer eastbound span that was completed in 1997.

Michigan Department of Transportation spokesperson Diane Cross says there will be delays.

Bridge staff say they will be monitoring traffic volumes closely.

There will be no designated Nexus and F.A.S.T. lanes.

While no weekend construction is expected, the traffic rerouting will remain in place on the weekends.
