Environment Canada meteorologist Sarah Wong says an intense streamer was impacting the immediate Sarnia area.
Wong expected the lake effect flurries to diminish as the northerly winds died down by Friday evening.
Environment Canada anticipated about 5 cm to 10 cm of accumulation in west Lambton County.
The rapid onset of snow Friday morning resulted in several collisions on city streets as drivers again failed to adjust to the changing conditions.
Sarnia Police Service Constable John Sottosanti said by 10am they had been called to investigate a dozen incidents.
Sottosanti says no serious injuries were reported.
Roads were windswept and slick and visibility was reduced at times in bursts of snow.
There were partly snow covered sections on Hwy. 402, primarily in west Lambton.
