World Autism Day

For the third year, Canadians officially recognize World Autism Awareness Day today.

Autism Ontario Family Support Coordinator for the South West Region Kathleen Foubister says six communities in Lambton County and several local organizations will raise a flag to show their support including Pt. Edward, Brooke-Alvinston, Oil Springs, Lambton Shores and at the Lambton County headquarters in Wyoming.

Foubister says one in 94 children are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.

She says that's about 100,000 in Ontario and represents approximately one per cent of the population.

Last year, 352 schools and 340 municipalities across the country participated by Raising the Flag.
