Golden Hawk To Be Rededicated This Spring

There will be pomp and ceremony on the ground and in the skies above Sarnia's Germain Park May 31.

Planning is underway for a special celebration that day, to mark the rededication of the iconic F-86 Sabre Golden Hawk.

403 Wing President John Stewart says they couldn't get the snowbirds but the earthbound jet will be honoured by the presence of some of its flight-capable comrades.

Stewart says they've confirmed that a British Vampire, a T33, two Harvards and an F-86 MK VI Golden Hawk Sabre jet, to be piloted by Chris Hadfield, will do fly overs.

Stewart says the event will be followed by a reception in the new hangar at Chris Hadfield Airport.

Visitors will be invited to take a close look at the aircraft that participated in the rededication.

The monument to World War Two airmen was carefully attached back to its perch in December.

It was removed from the park for the first time since 1973 in February 2013 to be refurbished.
