A person sending a text message. (File photo by Blackburn News)Those with speech or hearing impediments may have difficulty communicating with 911 operators during an emergency, but a new system can alleviate those problems.
Lambton County's Infrastructure and Development Services G.M. Jim Kutyba says once they dial 911 on their cell phones, they can then send and receive text messages, outlining the problem without verbalizing.
Kutyba says the first step is for them to contact their cell phone provider.
The service comes into affect today.
People in southern Huron and Lambton counties are being told to limit their time outside.
