Sydenham River Canoe And Kayak Race

The ever-popular Sydenham River Canoe and Kayak race was held Sunday.

The event is organized by the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority and is sanctioned by the Ontario Marathon Canoe and Kayak Racers Association.

Education Coordinator Sharon Nethercott says there are 7 km, 12 km and 16 km races, for those with all levels of canoeing experience.

Reigstration was at 10am with racing getting underway shortly after 11am starting from Mosside Line and finishing at the Shetland Conservation Area on Bentpath Line.

All canoes were required to be equipped with a whistle, bailer, 50 ft of rope as well as life jackets.

The race is a fundraiser for the conservation authority's outdoor education programs.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
