Homeowners Oppose Development Plans By Sifton Properties

A petition suggests neighbours are overwhelmingly against Sifton Properties' proposed rezoning at the northwest corner of Michigan Ave. and Modeland Rd. The petition gathered 37 signatures from 43 houses canvassed.

Sifton's plans called for a smaller grocery store, a four-storey seniors complex, a small medical centre with two doctors and possibly a restaurant. The area is designated low density in Sarnia's official plan.

Mayor Mike Bradley says the neighbourhood feels they were misrepresented when Sifton said there was support for the plan.

Bradley says a final decision is expected to be made at a planning meeting in late May. He says it's subject to appeal to the Ontario Municipal Board.
