Court Appeal Delays Board Action

The process to fill a vacant seat on the St. Clair Catholic District School Board will not begin until May 12.

The seat became vacant when Trustee Michelle Parks failed to file an election expense report to the Sarnia Clerk's office by the required deadline under the Municipal Elections act due to a "communication error." As a result, Parks has been told she must forfeit her seat on the board.

Parks is now taking legal action, applying to the Superior Court of Justice in Sarnia to have the decision reversed.

Under the Ontario Education Act, the board must fill the vacancy within 90 days after the position becomes vacant.

However, under advisement of legal counsel, the board will wait for the outcome of the appeal.
