Salmon Derby Marks 39 Years

The weather looks pretty good for the beginning of the 39th annual Bluewater Anglers Salmon Derby.

Spokesman Brad Armstrong says proceeds from the $25 entrance fee help support operations at their hatchery.

Armstrong says water temperatures on Lake Huron are at about 40 C right now, about ten degrees colder than normal and that could reduce the number of fish caught.

The derby begins at 12:01am Friday, May 1.

$35,000 in prizes are up for grabs, including the grand prize of $5,000 donated by the Village of Point Edward for the biggest salmon caught.
