Purple Ribbon Campaign Kicks Off

This year's Purple Ribbon Campaign is designed to raise awareness about alcohol-related water safety.

Lambton County Health Promoter Terry Easterby says ribbons were put up at the Bluewater Anglers Salmon Derby weigh station in Port Franks Tuesday afternoon.

A similar event is planned at the weigh station in Sarnia Thursday afternoon in co-operation with Bluewater Anglers.

According to Red Cross water safety experts, alcohol was a factor in nearly 40 per cent of water-related fatalities involving individuals over 15 years of age.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
