Protesters say 'NO' To Sex-Ed Curriculum

"We say no! We say no!"

The voices of nearly 50 protesters echoed through the streets outside the Lambton Kent District School Board office on Wellington St. Friday afternoon.

Parents and their children walked the block letting the public know their outrage with the new sex-ed curriculum.

"We're just concerned, it's way too much information way too young for the kids. We're concerned that parents were never fully or properly consulted by the government and we just feel like we've been ignored" says protest leader John McEachran at the event.

"Too much graphic information that they don't need," says McEachran. "We want to let kids be kids."

The new curriculum will be introduced to Ontario in September and provides information about sharing explicit content online, sexual orientation and gender identity.

Leah Withers is a mother of four girls and believes that sexual education should be taught in the home.

"They're ready when they ask a question," says Withers. "It doesn't need to be taught before they're ready."

"[My child] is out here right now picking dandelions and handing them to me," says speaker Amy Workwin. "These are the kinds of things kids should be doing. They don't need to learn this curriculum in school... I didn't have children so somebody else could raise them!"

Approximately 200 public elementary school students have been absent across the Lambton-Kent board's 52 schools every day this week.
