CSX Railway to Prevent Grass Fires

CSX Railway says it will take the necessary steps to prevent the possibility of grass fires along rail lines locally.

Crews from four Sarnia fire stations spent several hours May 21 fighting a series of grass fires along the CN tracks from St. Andrew St. to south of Hwy. 40 as well as another blaze in the rail yard.

Chief John Kingyens says the fires likely originated from hot ash or sparks from the engine of a train and CSX spokesperson Kristin Seay says they'll make adjustments where needed.

Because it is CN track, that rail company would be responsible for any improvements to the grass interface along the railway.
