City Postpones Bayside Mall Court Action

The City of Sarnia is postponing bringing a court motion next week to obtain possession of the Bayside Mall downtown.

The court-appointed mall receiver, A. John Page & Associates, has listed the mall building, not including the land, for $1.5-million and has set a deadline of July 9 for expressions of interest.

The Toronto-based receiver has failed in previous attempts to sell the property.

The city has decided to put off its court action and evaluate its position again after the new one-month listing.

The 245,000 sq ft building was once listed for as high as $6.5-million.

Two separate offers this spring for the city-owned land and building together were vetoed by both city and county councils. The value of the offers have not been made public.

Veto rights have since expired.
