Sarnia-Lambton Kids Far Too Inactive

Lambton Public Health says this area's numerous recreational opportunities need to be better promoted to encourage children to be more active.

Manager of Health Promotions Kevin Churchill says there are 98 parks in Sarnia alone, one for every 140 kids.

Sarnia-Lambton children, like those across the country, fall well below recommended standards for physical activity.

A report this week by ParticipAction assigned Canadian kids a D-minus.

The Report Card on Physical Activity says that only a handful of 5-to-17-year-olds are meeting the daily recommended guidelines of 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity.

Churchill says they're always working with community partners, including school boards and parks and recreation departments, to try to increase access to physical activity for children.
