Truck Safety Blitz

OPP and the Ministry of Transportation are teaming up for Operation Corridor. Western Region Sergeant Dave Rektor says the focus will be on transport truck drivers. He says over the last ten years, over 700 people have died on OPP patrolled roads in collisions involving large commercial vehicles.

Last year, there were 6,100 collisions involving tractor trailers and 69 people, most from other vehicles, lost their lives.

Sergeant Rektor says there is a real need for police to be diligent in education and enforcement of commercial vehicle rules and regulations.

The annual 24 hour traffic safety initiative begins Tuesday.
