Residents Want Open Storage Of RV's, Trailers And Boats

Residents have asked Sarnia City Council to amend by-laws and allow for the open storage of RV's, trailers, and boats during the camping season from May to October.

Mayor Mike Bradley says city planners don't support the full five months due to safety issues, however, he could see temporary relief granted for a couple days at a time.

Bradley says parking the vehicles on residential lots could cause sight line issues, sidewalk obstruction, and aesthetic concerns.

The current zoning by-law already offers opportunities for RV, trailer and boat storage in the side and rear yard on residential lots that provide the required setbacks.

A public hearing is set for September 14 to generate ideas for council's consideration.
