Community Concerned Over Former SGH Site

Residents in the neighbourhood surrounding the former Sarnia General Hospital are hoping a decision on ownership may resolve some ongoing concerns with the vacant property.

The ownership of SGH, being decided by a third party, is expected by early fall.

Neighbourhood spokesperson Mike Hurry says it's more than an eye sore for the area, it's a safety hazard.

Sarnia Police Services has responded to 24 reported calls at the site over the last three years ranging from mischief and trespassing to arson.

For health and safety reasons, officers will not enter the building unless its a life or death situation.

Bluewater Health has hospital security personnel conduct checks of the vacant site on foot four times daily.
