Strong July For Building Permits

July was the best month of the year so far for building permits in Sarnia.

48 permits were issued by city hall last month with a total construction value of nearly $10.8-million. That's by far the best month to date in 2015 and brings the year-to-date total to about $38.8-million, about the same as last year at this time.

Major permits included $1.2-million for an addition to Sarnia Christian School on Exmouth St., and $4.5-million for portable buildings on Vidal St. S. Dow Canada is conducting soil remediation work at its former site, sold to TransAlta in 2009. The two large structures can actually be moved by crane from one location to another.

Ten permits for single family homes were issued in July, for a year-to-date total of 69, three better than the 2014 pace.
