Unprecedented July Real Estate Sales

Sarnia-Lambton real estate sales have been hotter than the weather this summer.

The best sales in July in ten years were recorded last month, following record June numbers.

236 properties sold, up 20 percent from last July and dollar volume hit an unprecedented $51.9-million.

Real Estate Board President Jane Baker says it's difficult to explain the incredible numbers during a summer vacation month like July.

"I still wonder if it has something to do with the slow start we had in the year, and it's just kind of accumulated. I would put it down, personally, to stability," says Baker. "Everybody is confident in the market right now, they're confident with the bank rates, and they're just finding it a good time to move."

There are currently 864 active listings in the MLS system with 455 of those being single family homes.

The average sale price so far this year is $222,000, compared to about $219,000 last year.
