Putting Emergency Responders to the Test

100 emergency responders were put to the test Tuesday morning for the annual Sarnia Area Disaster Simulation (SADS).

At NOVA Chemical's Corunna site, a simulated lightning strike hit one of the tank lids and caused it to erupt into flames.

Industry and municipal fire crews battling the imaginary fire also had to deal with rescuing a company worker and preventing the fire from impinging on a nearby railcar.

Regional Emergency Response Specialist Nick Robichaud says he's very pleased with their performance.

St. Clair Township Fire Chief Walt Anderson says these simulations keep emergency responders on their feet.

Responders were debriefed afterwards on their performance of the two hour exercise that took place near Hwy 40 and Petrolia Line.
