Driver Charged In 402 Crash

An American driver in hospital after last week's chain reaction crash on the westbound 402 at Christina St. has been charged with careless driving.

Police say the 52-year-old was driving the third tractor trailer involved in the rear-end collision that closed the highway for close to eight hours last Thursday.

Gerald Schmucker, of Chestnut Mound Tennessee, remains in hospital in stable condition after having to be extricated from his heavily damaged cab.

Another driver, 32-year-old Kultarn Minhas of Brampton suffered minor injuries and was treated at hospital and released the day of the crash.
