Catholic Students Fare Well In Literacy Results

The St.Clair Catholic District School Board has scored well above the provincial average in the latest literacy tests for secondary students.

98 per cent of first time eligible students participated in the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Tests, compared to 93 per cent for the province.

St. Clair Catholic students had an 87 per cent success rate, compared to 82 per cent province wide.

Director of Education Dan Parr says the success rate for first time eligible students with special needs was 66 per cent, well above the provincial average of 45 per cent.

He says previously eligible students at the separate board had a success rate of 70 per cent, compared to 49 per cent across Ontario.

Parr says the board will review the data in depth as part of their improvement plans.
