No Smoke Alarms In Attic Fire

Charges have been laid following a small attic fire in Sarnia's north-end just before 7am Friday.

Sarnia Fire and Rescue says the dwelling, located on Windemere Cres., didn't have working smoke alarms.

As a result, the owner of the home and tenant were each handed a $360 fine.

Fire Prevention Officer Roel Bus says they were lucky to escape injury. He says the blaze originated from a bathroom fan that shorted out.

Bus says the family was alerted to the fire after they heard the fan fall off the ceiling.

Damage is estimated at $20,000.
