Suspicious Device Forces Evacuation

There was plenty of unwanted excitement in the Afton Court area Wednesday around 8:30am.

Sarnia police responded to a report of a suspicious device and evacuated nearby residents as a precaution.

The OPP's Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit was summoned, but before they arrived, criminal investigators quickly discovered the device was in fact a homemade oil lamp and posed no danger to the public.

The owner of the device was cautioned not to leave it in public view.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
