Strong Voter Turnout In Sarnia-Lambton

Voter turnout in Monday's federal election in Sarnia-Lambton was 72.16 per cent, up from 62 per cent in 2011.

Elections Canada figures show that 58,133 of 80,565 registered electors in the riding cast ballots.

Nationally, close to 17.6-million people voted, 68.5 per cent of eligible voters, the most since 1993.

Elections Canada says the swell in numbers was partly due to the 3.6-million Canadians who voted at advance polls.

In Lambton-Kent-Middlesex Riding 69.89 per cent of registered voters cast a ballot compared to 65 per cent four years ago.
