Woman Convicted In Fatal Crosswalk Collision Dies

An elderly Sarnia woman found guilty of dangerous driving in a tragic crosswalk collision in early 2013, has died before being sentenced.

An obituary announcement posted by the Smith Funeral Home says 82-year-old Hilda Minnis died at Bluewater Health's Palliative Care Saturday.

Minnis was convicted October 23 of dangerous driving causing death after a seven day trial in the Superior Court of Justice.

10-year-old Jillian Keck was killed when she was struck by a car while crossing Murphy Rd. at Cathcart Blvd. on her way to Cathcart School after lunch January 7, 2013.

Minnis was to be sentenced January 15, 2016.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
