Vipers Bite Legionnaires in OT

The Sarnia Legionnaires fell 3-2 to the LaSalle Vipers in GOJHL hockey play Thursday, in a game that was decided in the three on three overtime period.

Sarnia jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the second period on a nice back door one timer from Jarrett Marks.

Eric Kirby tied the contest on the powerplay a few minutes later. Brandon Layman responded with a breakaway goal to make it 2-1 Legionnaires after two periods.

Blake Jones tied the game on the powerplay midway through the third period and then James Brooks potted the OT winner for the Vipers.

Legionnaires Head Coach Mark Davis was livid at the referees after his team took a pair of too many men penalties, a bench minor for unsportsmanlike conduct, and a late goalie interference call.

Sarnia outshot LaSalle 40-33 on the evening. The Vipers converted two of seven powerplay chances while the Legionnaires went zero for four.

The Legionnaires are now 9-8-1-2 on the season, five back of LaSalle in the Western Conference standings.

The Legionnaires are back in action on Saturday in Strathroy.
