Fire Damages Point Edward Business

A commercial building was damaged by fire in downtown Point Edward Tuesday evening.

Village firefighters responded to 131 Michigan Ave. just after 6pm.

Fire Prevention Officer Rick MacGregor says the fire appeared to start in the rear portion of the interior of the two-storey structure housing Abby's Wardrobe.

There is a sewing and alterations business on the upper floor.

MacGregor says a smoke alarm was heard in a neighbouring business and they were able to respond quickly and knock down the flames in the unoccupied building.

He says there was mainly smoke damage but no dollar estimate was available yet and the cause remained under investigation.
