Funding Cuts For Rural Lambton

Lambton County Council was updated on changes of the provincial government's transfer payment to municipalities under the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund.

In 2016, $500-million will be allocated to 388 municipalities, with an additional $5-million supporting northern communities.

Finance General Manager John Innes explains municipalities receiving transitional assistance will have a decrease in funding of about 15 per cent.

Warwick, Enniskillen, Brooke-Alvinston and Dawn-Euphemia are seeing a six-digit cut to their share of the OMPF.

Warwick Township Mayor Todd Case voiced concerns of an 8-9 per cent tax increase for his municipality's ratepayers as a result, stating the province's decision will hurt rural municipalities.
