Full House At Sarnia Harbour

It could be a full house at Sarnia Harbour this winter.

Sarnia Economic Development and Corporate Planning Director Peter Hungerford says ten ships are booked to dock here once the weather turns colder and the shipping season ends.

Repair and maintenance of the vessels could create up 300 jobs with between 150 and 200 Sarnia-Lambton companies providing supplies and services .

"Of course we won't know until they're all here how many were actually going to get," says Hungerford.

"Ships can be delayed by winter, they can be redirected to other ports if they have cargo and find they can't get back to Sarnia due to weather conditions, but at this point in time we're hoping to see ten vessels in the harbour for the winter time."

The city took ownership of the former federal harbour in March of 2014.
