Tanker Enters Ditch In Morning Crash

A propane tanker hit the ditch on Modeland Rd. at Wellington St. Tuesday morning.

There were no injuries and the tanker was empty although the Ministry of the Environment was notified about a leak of 20 gal of diesel fuel from the cab.

Lambton OPP Constable Chris Doupe says the crash happened around 8:20am.

"It appears as though a tractor trailer combination was southbound on Modeland Rd. approaching Wellington St. in Sarnia, at that time the tractor trailer attempted to avoid a collision with another vehicle," says Doupe.

"That avoidance caused the tractor trailer to enter the southwest ditch at that intersection."

The driver of a pick-up truck, a 21-year-old Oil Springs man, is charged with making an unsafe left turn.

Southbound Modeland Rd. was closed to traffic for about three hours while the scene was cleared.
