Freezing Rain Warning In Effect

Environment Canada issued a freezing rain warning for areas across southern Ontario Monday, as an intense Texas low brought blowing snow and ice pellets to the region.

Associated with the low is a warm front that produced a band of freezing rain that began impacting Sarnia around mid-afternoon as it moved northeastwards.

Ice accumulation amounts ranging from 5 mm to 10 mm were expected. Strong easterly winds of 40 km/h gusting to 70 km/h presented the threat of widespread power outages although no major service interruptions had occurred in Sarnia-Lambton by late Monday night.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots became icy, slippery and hazardous.

Beware of branches or electrical wires that could break under the weight of ice.

Environment Canada was warning drivers to expect poor travel conditions.
