OSPCA Urges Caution With Outdoor Animals

The Sarnia Humane Society is urging owners to protect their pets in the cold weather.

Sarnia's OSPCA Agent Nicole King says they offer a "Standards of Care" guideline for various outdoor animals including horses, dogs, goats, etc.

She says outdoor dogs should have a proper shelter with straw insulation, rather than blankets.

"The best place for them, of course, is in your home. For walks and everything like that for your dog there's always coats and booties. The biggest thing for dogs for the winter is the salt in their pads," says King.

Anyone with concerns about animals in the community can call the Sarnia Humane Society or OSPCA for further investigation.
