Silver Stick Impact Bolstered By Buck

The lower loonie is good for business with dozens of hockey teams visiting Sarnia-Lambton this month.

Tourism Sarnia-Lambton's Vicky Praill says the various Silver Stick tournaments provide a big boost for the local economy, generating about $4-million in revenue.

She says American visitors may spend even more given the state of the Canadian dollar.

"Every weekend having 5,000 to 6,000 staying here, eating breakfast, lunch and supper, obviously going shopping, getting their skates sharpened, filling up their cars with gas," says Praill. "It has a huge economic impact on our community."

The 18th Annual Women's Silver Stick Finals are on this weekend in Sarnia and Point Edward.
