Heritage Tax Relief

The city of Sarnia is doing its part to help preserve heritage buildings.

A new municipal tax relief program has been launched for local properties listed under the Ontario Heritage Act.

Director of Planning Jane Cooper says they're able to offer property tax relief for the next ten years.

There's a 10 per cent rebate for properties kept in good repair and another 30 per cent for restoration.

"Eligible property owners who have heritage buildings can now put in requests where they want to do work to get some rebate," says Cooper.

There are about a dozen heritage buildings in Sarnia including the Lawrence House, the Mulberry House, and St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church.

Details and application forms can be found on the city of Sarnia's website at www.sarnia.ca.
