New Water Meters For Petrolia

The town of Petrolia is taking steps to try to cut down water loss revenue.

Operations Director Mike Thompson says aging water meters slow down and don't accurately measure water usage.

"We are replacing the water meters in Petrolia to try and get a hold of our water loss," says Thompson.

"We presently have 17 per cent water loss, the acceptable amount is under 10 per cent, so hopefully through new meters we can rectify the problem."

The town will spend a quarter of a million of dollars this year to replace water meters that are over 10 years old.

A 17% loss in water and sewage revenue can amount to up $1.5 million.
