2016 Real Estate Sales Off To Strong Start

Sarnia-Lambton real estate sales are off to a strong start in 2016 with January's dollar volume the best in ten years.

Real Estate Board President Jane Baker says 110 properties worth $27-million sold last month, which is 36% better than January 2015 when frigid weather depressed the market.

Baker says this year's mild winter has created demand that's typical of a spring market.

"I think it's just a good stable market, we've got a lot of good things going on in Sarnia," she says. "We've got development in the downtown, people moving into our city for jobs. It's just an all around good, stable market right now."

Baker says increased sales in the mid-to-upper price range contributed to the higher dollar volume.

The average sale price through one month is nearly $236,000 compared to $224,000 last year.

There are currently 666 active listings in the MLS system with 279 of those being single family homes.
