High Food Costs Impact Inn Donations

The high price of food has impacted the amount of donations coming in at the Inn of the Good Shepherd.

Executive Director Myles Vanni says it could cause some problems for the spring and summer months when donations are often lower.

"With the higher prices, our Christmas drive didn't bring in as much food as we've normally seen. Our warehouse shelves just aren't as full," says Vanni.

He says a fresh food drive will take place at the London Rd. Superstore near the end of the month.

"The one blessing is with the weather being warmer, people aren't seeing the heating bills that we had last year," says Vanni, noting that's helped free up money for groceries.

According to a Nutritious Food Basket survey in May, the cost of feeding a family of four in Lambton County totals $869.46 per month, a 4.1% increase from 2013.
