Sarnia

UPDATE: Extreme Cold Warning Issued

Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for Sarnia-Lambton.

The weather agency says a cold front will pass through the region Friday night resulting in very cold temperatures on gusty northwest winds.

Windchill values of -30 C and -35 C are expected overnight Friday and into Saturday morning. The windchill is expected to improve slightly on Saturday afternoon before dropping to the -30 C range again Saturday night. Conditions are expected to be slightly warmer Sunday.

In the meantime, the Lambton medical officer of health has issued a cold weather alert for February 12-14.

A cold weather alert is issued when daily, low temperatures are predicted to be -15 C or below, without a wind chill value.

All residents should take precautions during such an alert by dressing in layers, shielding exposed areas from the wind and limiting time spent outdoors.

Lambton Public Health advises local agencies that provide shelter and assistance to the homeless to prepare for an increase in demand.
