Man Charged For Driving On Closed Highway

A 48-year-old Grand Bend man is facing numerous charges after Huron OPP spotted a vehicle driving on a closed highway this past weekend.

Police say a GMC Sierra pick up truck was spotted driving southbound on highway 21 around 12:30am February 13. The roadway was closed at the time due to extremely poor visibility from drifting and blowing snow.

The officer was able to get the driver’s attention and initiated a traffic stop just south of Blue Bluff Rd. Police allege alcohol was detected on the driver’s breath, but a breath sample was refused.

48-year-old Robert Purdy is charged with failing to provide a breath sample, failing to comply with an undertaking, failing to comply with recognizance, driving while under suspension and driving on a closed highway.

His vehicle has been impounded for seven days and he's also facing a 90 drivers licence suspension.

He has a court date scheduled for April 28, 2016 in Exeter.
