County Close To Selling Coronation Park Property

The director of the London Bridge ABC Early Childhood Learning Centre has confirmed their interest in purchasing the former Coronation Park Day Nursery on Oak Ave. in Sarnia.

The County of Lambton closed the financially strapped facility after 32 years of operation November 28, 2014 and issued a public request for proposals for the sale or lease of the property.

ABC Director Joanie Vallinga says if the purchase goes ahead, they would move their existing operation from their current London Rd. site.

"We are dealing with the county for the possible purchase of the property," says Vallinga. "It is our hope that we will acquire the property but at this point nothing is definitive."

The Coronation day care was running a deficit of more than $1-million due to provincial funding cutbacks and the introduction of all day kindergarten.

Its closure affected 40 full and part time employees, the majority represented by CUPE Local 2926.

It was licensed to provide care to 88 children.
