Sarnia Breaks Another Warm Weather Record

Sarnia has broken another warm weather record over the course of the weekend.

On Sunday, the temperature rose to around 15 C (59 F), which breaks the February 28 record of 10.1 C (50 F) set in 1983.

This is the third record high temperature Sarnia has recorded in just over a week.

Desjanelle Matthews, a severe weather meteorologist with Environment Canada, says with such a mild winter season, it isn’t surprising that a number of warm weather records have been broken.

“What we have is a southwest flow. It’s basically bringing warmer air from from the Plains States northwards towards southern Ontario,” she says. “We are on the south side of a very pronounced warm-front.”

However, the warm weather is not expected to last with temperatures forecasted to dip below freezing on Monday. And local residents may be looking at significant snowfall that is expected to hit the region on Tuesday.
