Memorial Mariners' Service Sunday

It's an annual rite of spring in the port of Sarnia.

The mariners' service will be held at the "Sailor's Church" in Point Edward Sunday, March 6 at 10am.

The interfaith service is held each year at St. Paul's Anglican Church before the start of the Great Lakes navigation season.

The church was originally located at the corner of Livingston St. and Victoria St. where its tall tin steeple was used to guide ships in second half of the 19th century.

St. Paul's heritage room has numerous items and artifacts paying tribute to the role shipping has played in the community.

It's also a memorial to the bravery of those who battled the elements and who, in some cases, lost their lives on the lakes.
