Lambton's Fire School Leads The Way

Lambton College's Fire and Public Safety Centre of Excellence has been designated as a regional training program by the Ontario Fire College. (OFC)

Fire Science students will have an opportunity to obtain National Fire Protection Association, Pro Board and International Fire Service Accreditation Congress certifications when they graduate.

Campus Administrator Andre Ouellette says this will give Lambton students an advantage.

'Students that are graduating from the Pre-Service and the Fire Science Program can immediately do the testing to get the NFPA certification," says Ouellette.

"Typically to get an NFP certification you have to be an active firefighter, but because our students are coming out with the experience and through the program and our facilities they're able to challenge the test right away."

The designation also means the college can offer the NFPA 1081 - Industrial Brigade Certification, a training module currently in high demand from industrial clients and municipal fire departments.

Lambton is the first College or University in the province to be designated as and OFC Regional Training Centre.
