Local Flu Related Death Confirmed

There has been one flu related death in Sarnia-Lambton.

In an email to BlackburnNews.com Lambton Public Health Supervisor Erin Courtney says they have also seen a spike in the number of confirmed flu cases.

"There have been 40 type A cases, six type B and one death," says Courtney. "All of these cases came in after February 5."

In addition there has been one influenza B outbreak at a local long-term care home.

There were 63 lab confirmed cases of influenza and three flu-related deaths in Sarnia Lambton last flu season.

Residents are reminded to continue to prevent spread of the viruses by washing hands with soap frequently, keeping ill family members home from school or work and cleaning regularly touched surfaces like door handles and computer keyboards often.
