College Testing Foot Powered Washing Machine

Lambton College will be assisting in the research and development of foot-powered washing machine.

The Lambton Water Centre partnered with Toronto-based start up Yirego Corporation, to test their compact machine that uses no electricity, and only a small amount of water.

Dean of Applied Research and Innovation Mehdi Sheikhzadeh says small companies lacking research and design come to Lambton to access the expertise and infrastructure within the college.

He says they plan to have two or three students working alongside research faculty.

"To do some testing and helping them identify the optimal conditions for the prototype . Also evaluate the cleaning efficiency and potentially improving the design ."

He says it's an opportunity for them to improve the design and work out the kinks before it goes on the open market.
